Oriental Rugs

An Oriental Rug is the most important addition to any room. It adds color, elegance and dignity. Oriental rugs are traditionally made by women and children. While women spin and weave, men tend the flocks, shear the wool and take care of dyeing, even building the loom, if necessary.

One of the oldest surviving rugs, 2500 years old, is a Pazyryk rug, found in a frozen grave site in Siberia; now on view at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Oriental Rugs come from Iran (Persian), Turkey, Southern Russia (Caucasian), India and Pakistan. Recent immigrants of Persian weavers to Pakistan have set up workshops and , with quality materials, are producing beautiful classical Persian designs.

Like a painting, a fine rug is considered a work of art.
